Description
The Wet Tensile Test is widely used wherever activated calcium bentonites are in common use, as a guide to the degree of activation of the bond. The test is also an excellent tool for monitoring the ratio of calcium and sodium bentonites in system sands and preblends.
A 2 in. (50.8 mm) dia. specimen is rammed into a special specimen tube fitted with a lift-off ring. After ramming the specimen tube it is inverted so that the ring is at the top. When the tube is placed on the tester and pushed into test position, a plate, heated to 600°F (316°C), automatically lowers and contacts the exposed end of the specimen. After a preselected time interval, a tensile load is applied to the ring until the specimen fails through the wet layer. The load required to accomplish this is recorded as the Wet Tensile Strength. This value can be used to derive the ratio of sodium to calcium bentonite in the system sand. The test can also be used for checking incoming bentonite for uniformity. Includes specimen tube and steel ring, hanger, six slotted calibration weights, cup pedestal, and thermosticks. Specifications: Dimensions (W x D x H):……..13 3/8 x 20 1/2 x 21 in. (340 x 520 x 533 mm.) |
